President of Laurel View Homes, Dave Mandel was recently interviewed and our homes were featured in a special Trends Edition in Grand Magazine. More than 20 professionals were surveyed to highlight what’s hot in new construction. Here are a few excerpts and photos from Dave’s interview and some trends to watch.
Choice
More high quality Canadian products, materials, colours, patterns and styles are competing with exotic imports. Natural materials vs. engineered alternatives. You have choice and that’s a good thing!
Personalized Customization
Personal taste, function and form are taking priority over what traditional builders offer. It’s your home; you should have some say and be a part of the design/build process.
Big and Bold
Dramatic designs with exaggerated scale are an important part of your personal style, taste and choice. Rooms and architectural details that didn’t get much attention in the past are now becoming focal points.
The View from the Street
Clone-homes are out. Dave is passionate about this point and advises that “it really starts with the selection of the sites. People want to live on interesting streets. They want conservation land and forests, that green space in their backyards.”
Connected
Smart homes are in. Every room is connected. Advances in technology make homes not only smarter but greener. Energy Star. New materials and technology in lighting, flooring, windows, HVAC systems and garages not only save money, but the planet.
Come on In- Details and Luxury Matter
Dave chimes in: “Standard features are now elevated. Granite counters and hardwood floors used to be premium features.” Laurel View surpasses the minimum, mundane standards of most builders.
The Everything Room
Eat, drink and be merry – do it all in one connected and social space. Big kitchens and open floor plans just make sense with the way modern families live.
Personal Sanctuaries
Bedrooms are now master suites for quiet repose and comfort. Bathrooms are looking more like spas with glass, tiles, mood lighting and luxurious finishes. Staycations are looking more and more inviting in new homes.
